United States Pharmacopeia

The United States Pharmacopeia (USP) is an independent scientific organization formed in 1820. In 1906 the Pure Food and Drug Act required compliance with purity levels established by USP.

The USP-NF is a combination of two compendia, the USP and National Formulary (NF). Monographs for drug substances, dosage forms and compound preparations are found in the USP section and excipient monographs are found in the NF section.
